POLICE in two Weardale towns have confiscated alcohol from youths during their night-time patrols.

Police Community Support Officer Trev Patterson came across a 16-year-old from the Bishop Auckland area in the Ironworks Road area of Tow Law on Friday night (October 11).

PCSO Patterson confiscated the youth’s alcohol and has referred him Durham County Council's Anti Social Behaviour team.

A spokesman for Crook Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “His details will be kept on record.”

Later on the same evening, PCSO Patterson stopped two males, aged 18 and 16, at St Anne’s Recreational Ground in Wolsingham.

The 18 year old male was in possession of 10 cans of Fosters lager, but the alcohol was seized as PCSO Patterson suspected it was going to be given to the 16-year-old.

The spokesman said: “Although the 18-year-old was at the legal age to consume alcohol it was confiscated from him as he was in company with a minor.

“Officers suspected that he would have supplied the minor with alcohol, hence the confiscation.”
