THE first steam train built in the UK for more than 50 years is getting set to star in a series of railway events.
Tornado, which was built in Darlington in 2008, remains popular with steam enthusiasts.
Since its completion at Darlington Locomotive Works, Tornado has become one of the busiest steam locomotives around, covering more than 70,000 miles.
It will run on the Mid Hants Railway as part of its annual autumn steam spectacular event later this month.
The headline-grabbing steam engine then travels to Peterborough and The Nene Valley Railway for the Winter Tornado Gala in November. Tornado has previously attracted worldwide attention with various Royal journeys, all which included train enthusiast Prince Charles.
It is also the first steam locomotive to have been paid for by public subscription and travels at speeds of up to 70mph.
