A PARK will be transformed into an illuminated wonderland every evening for the next three weeks.

Alice In Wonderland sculptures placed around Roker Park in Sunderland will be illuminated at dusk to create a magical evening for families.

The Wonderland Experience starts on Saturday (Oct 12) and runs from 5pm to 9pm every night until November 3.

Along with the atmospheric lighting, there will be a programme of family-friendly entertainment available at weekends, starting with tea cup and saucer lantern making workshops in the park’s Bowling Club on Saturday, October 19.

Chris Alexander, chief operating officer of Sunderland Live, who are delivering the event on behalf of Sunderland City Council said: "Last year’s programme of entertainment at Roker Park Lights was a huge success and we were obviously keen to repeat this.

"Instead of focussing our attention on a launch night, this year we decided to offer an enhanced programme of family friendly entertainment in keeping with the theme of the event."

Children are invited to return to collect their tea cup and saucer lanterns and help illuminate the park for a floating mad hatter’s tea party on the pond.

There will also be a prize Cheshire Cat trail for children.
