POLICE have arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after an incident in Redcar.

The arrest follows an investigation into how a 65-year-old man received head injuries.

The man remains in police custody for questioning.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said; "An ambulance was called at around 1.25am on October 9 to a property on Chestnut Avenue in Redcar and treated him at the address.

"Officers attended at 9.13am and found the man unconscious. He was then taken to James Cook University Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

"There have been no similar incidents in the area and officers will continue to have an active presence today in and around Chestnut Avenue."
