DURHAM University has retained its place in the world’s top 100.

The university, which is ranked 80th, is one of only ten UK universities in the World Top 100, according to the 2013/2014 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

Durham has maintained its position after a climb of three places the previous year.

Durham is consistently ranked in the top bracket of universities in the UK, alongside Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London and the London School of Economics.

It is ranked fifth in the country in The Complete University Guide 2014 and sixth in the UK in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2014.

Durham University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chris Higgins, said: “We are proud that the league tables continue to confirm that Durham is the leading University in the North of England.

“We are the only world top 100 institution in the North East of England and Durham is recognised both nationally and internationally as one of the world’s leading universities, acknowledging our strengths of combining innovative research-led teaching with a unique student experience.”
