A CHOIR from Germany have visited an historic church where they are preparing to perform this weekend.

The Petrikirche choir, from Mulheim, arrived in Darlington today (Thursday, October 3) as part of a series of celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of town-twinning links between the two towns.

The choir will perform at the Grade I-listed St Cuthbert’s Church, in Darlington’s Market Square, on Saturday, October 5, in a joint performance with the church’s own choir.

Darlington is also twinned with the French town of Amiens and has also built up civic, educational and business links with a number of other towns across Europe.

Councillor Tom Nutt, chairman of the Darlington Town Twinning Association, said the concert was one of a number of musical performances planned to bring a year of visits and formal ceremonies to a close.

He said: “This has been a fantastic year for town twinning. It has gone beyond my wildest expectations and is set to end with a bang and a song in Darlington.

“I would like to thank everyone who has helped to make this year possible and urge local people to get involved and buy a ticket for one of the final events of the year.”

The concert will start at 7.30pm. Tickets priced £5 are available from St Cuthbert’s Church or the church hall.
