NEARLY three quarters of people in the North-East have no will prepared for their death, according to a survey.

The survey for Legal & General Life Insurance found that 63 per cent of those living in the region described themselves as quite or very financially responsible.

Yet 72 per cent of the respondents had no will and 33 per cent had made no provisions at all in the event of their death. Meanwhile, only 13 per cent had critical illness cover in place should they fall seriously ill.

The research was carried out as part of the company's 'Simple Things' campaign which aims to raise awareness about life insurance.

Those surveyed in the North-East said losing their job was the single most event likely to make them more financially responsible.

John Hyde, marketing director at Legal & General Life Insurance, said there needed to be a shift in attitudes from the public, adding: "Making sure you have adequate provisions in place both for yourself and your family should the worst happen is a responsibility we all share."
