COLLEAGUES of a man who courageously battled cancer have raised thousands in his memory with a tandem skydive.

Before his death this summer, AMEC worker Nigel Cartwright worked to raise awareness of urological cancers by documenting his fight with bladder cancer in a newsletter sent to colleagues

Having been moved by his story, Jan Howson, 54 and Simone Eliott, 19 – who work at AMEC in Wynyard - decided to raise funds in his memory with a skydive.

The pair completed their dives in September and raised over £2,000, with AMEC adding another £1,000 to the pot, which will go to the urological cancer charity UCAN.

Ms Howson said: “We would both love to do it again. It is so amazing and such an exhilarating experience that I recommend everybody put on their bucket list. I understand now why people say it is addictive.

“We want to thank all of our sponsors and most of all, we are pleased to support the charity that works so hard to promote awareness of this type of cancer.”
