TWO teaching assistants from the same school have been praised in a national competition for their efforts in helping youngsters who struggle with maths and reading.
Karen Cleghorn and Carol Hodgson, of Wolsingham School and Community College, in County Durham, were amongst 6,000 entrants in the National Teaching Assistant 2013 competition.
Based at the school on Leazes Lane, Wolsingham, they were named as being in the competition’s top 20 entrants.
The National Teaching Assistant competition is organised by Teaching Personnel a group which provides teaching staff to schools.
Headteacher Deborah Merrett said: “They have both gone above and beyond the call of duty and they deserve the awards.”
They were put forward for the competition by Rachel Johnson, the special educational needs co-ordinator, at the school.
They were given certificates by the Teaching Personnel team and flowers by colleagues at the school to mark their success.
