A NORTH-EAST act entertained thousands when they supported reggae superstars The Wailers on Friday (September 27).

Darlington band The Equalisers had just two days to prepare for the biggest gig of their career when they were asked to support Bob Marley’s backing band at Newcastle’s O2 Arena.

The reggae band relished playing to a packed house alongside one of the most influential bands in the world, according to their front man, Martin Pybus.

He said: “The original support act had to pull out, so we only got asked to play on Wednesday, meaning we had two days to prepare for the biggest gig of our career so far.

“For a band from Darlington it doesn’t get much better than this, supporting the biggest name in reggae.

“It’s been an amazing experience and one which the band can build on.”

The Equalisers will play their two remaining gigs of the year in Darlington soon.

They will perform at the Voodoo Café on Skinnergate on Friday, November 8 and at their annual Christmas party, to be held at The Forum on Saturday, December 21. For more information, visit theequalisers.co.uk.
