A POPULAR annual motorcycle event will have a cinematic theme this year.

Durham Constabulary headquarters at Aykley Heads, Durham, City, will host the 19th Bikewise day on Sunday (july 28).

A private collector has loaned the force three Triumph motorbikes that featured in major films.

There will be a Bonneville used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines, a Scrambler that Tom Cruise rode in Mission Impossible III and the Triumph Trophy TR5 Scrambler that belonged to the Arthur Fonzarelli – The Fonz – in the 1970s TV series Happy Days.

Two of the bikes will be ridden by HM Plant- sponsored professional riders at BikeWise, former British and World Superbike champion Neil Hodgson and Leon Hunt, who races in the National Superstock 1000 championships.

“We are thrilled to have such famous bikes with us on Sunday and I am sure they will prove a big attraction,” said Sft Iain Rodgers, of the force’s motorcycle section.

“BikeWise really has something for everyone, it’s not just for biking enthusiasts.

“We have displays from the police dog section, the police helicopter will be there and there are some fabulous stunt teams and individual riders whose skills are just breathtaking.”

Owners of custom or classic bikes are being encouraged to bring them along, with the chance to win prizes.

Officers will be promoting road safety and their ongoing BikeSafe Training programme around this year’s theme of Don’t Learn by Accident. Police dog Bruce will perform with the force dog display team at the event for the last time before heading.

Entry is from 10am and costs £2 for adults and free for under-16s. Proceeds will go to local good causes For more information visit www.bikewise.org.uk
