DURHAM City MP Roberta Blackman-Woods, has officially opened a new Baby Cafe.
The cafe at Ushaw Moor Children’s Centre will be open on Fridays from 9.45am to 11.30am and offers a friendly and relaxed environment for pregnant women, breastfeeding mums and their families to meet each other and access support from experienced childcare professionals.
The Baby Cafe is particularly keen to stress the importance and benefits of breastfeeding and offers an environment in which mothers can feel comfortable and confident nursing their babies.
Ms Blackman-Woods said: “I was extremely pleased to be able to come and open the Baby Cafe and meet staff together with a number of mums and babies who are looking forward to the weekly sessions.
“I have always been a keen supporter of breastfeeding and the babies I saw were so content it was a delight to see.
“We all know that many new mums need and appreciate support, particularly with important issues like breastfeeding, from both professionals and other mothers.
"I hope that this Baby Cafe, and others like it setting up in and around Durham, are able to continue to offer this valuable support and encourage more new mums to learn about the many benefits of breastfeeding.”
