Pianist Taborn, bass player Thomas Morgan and drummer Gerald Cleaver appear on other ECM recordings including Michael Formanek and Tomasz Stanko, but this is their first trio recording. Taborn’s varied compositions are both a challenge and inspiration to his colleagues, with a satisfying balance between structure and interpretation. Playing and recording are up to standard.
