MEMORIAL EXHIBITION: Artist Ann Mason is holding an exhibition in memory of Sue Prytherick, of Barningham, one of her art students who died of cancer last year. Ms Prytherick was a nurse and supported Save the Children, and ten per cent of all sales from the exhibition, in Barningham Village Hall, from 10.30am to 5pm on July 13 and 14 will go to the charity. An informal preview night for friends, old art students and villagers will be held from 7pm to 9pm on Friday, July 12.

NEW CHAIRMAN: George Stastny was elected chairman of Whorlton and Westwick Parish Council at the group's annual general meeting. He replaces David Kinch, who lost his seat on the council at the local elections in May.

FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT: The annual six-a-side football tournament at Teesdale Leisure Centre takes place on July 13 and 14. Junior teams will play on the Saturday and adults a day later. WRITING WORKSHOP: Stockton-based writer and performer Mike Edwards will lead a workshop on creating characters and writing in character at The NeST, Newgate, Barnard Castle, on Sunday, July 14, from 4pm to 5pm.
