CHILDREN gave their neighbourhood a good spring clean this afternoon. (Friday, May 17)

Year three, four and five pupils from West Cornforth Primary School took part in a big tidy up event, picking up litter throughout the village.

They also designed posters to display in the community so residents will be aware of their work and make the effort to keep West Cornforth tidy.

Teacher Clare Hird said: “The pupils wanted to do this.

“They are proud of their village and like to look after it and go out into the community to do good work and raise awareness of the issues they learn about in lessons.

“They have been learning about litter so are aware of its impact, they know if they drop one sweet wrapper or crisp packet it can build up and contribute to a negative look and feel in their village.”

The work fits in with the school’s Comenius project which sees it is work with other schools around Europe on green, sporty and healthy initiatives.
