A GIANT lung has been helping to demonstrate the help on hand to North-East asthma sufferers amid fears people may be struggling with symptoms needlessly.

Bowburn Pharmacy, in Ash Terrace, Bowburn, is aiming to reach those not fully in control of their condition and can offer simple techniques and advice to help them gain control.

The County Durham pharmacy is taking part in the All About Health programme, which is marking World Asthma Day, on May 7, by highlighting its asthma service at chemists across the country.

A giant lung has today (Wednesday, May 1) visited the pharmacy as part of a tour of participating chemists.

Pharmacist Phyllis Whitburn is urging all those with asthma to come and speak to a member of the team to ensure they are getting the maximum benefit from their inhaler medication.

She said: “We want to support people with asthma and would encourage those with the condition to come and see us so that we can check they are using their medication correctly and offer advice on how to manage their condition.

“Asthma attacks can be extremely distressing and as part of the All About Health programme and website allabouthealth.org.uk we want to do everything we can to show how with correct medicine management asthma shouldn’t stop you from achieving all you want to.

“The service is free and people can simply drop in and speak to one of our trained staff.”
