A CANCER charity is offering patients the chance to take a break at the seaside to help them cope with the illness.

A sea view apartment on the West Cliff at Whitby is available through York Against Cancer who raised £125,000 last year to mark the 25th anniversary since the charity was set up.

The aim is to give patients and their families the chance to get away and have some respite before, during or after treatment.

Julie Russell, general manager at the charity, said: “We had our 25th birthday last year and decided that during the year we wanted to raise money for something in particular.

"We asked patients, families and supporters what we should do to mark our anniversary and from all the ideas that we got this one seemed to be the most appealing.

“We fund care for people with cancer and we thought this would be a great aspect of that .”

The three-bedroom apartment will be available for booking from mid-April for patients diagnosed with cancer, currently receiving treatment or who are within a year of their last treatment. For more details go to yorkagainstcancer.org.uk
