MORPETH Harriers continued to add to their growing collection of silverware by completing a senior double in the annual Elswick Harriers Road Relays - but their Olympic Games 1500m finalist Laura Weightman found herself out-run by marathon international Alyson Dixon.

Making her first competitive outing since competing in the IAAF Diamond League in August the 21-year-old Northumbrian anchored Morpeth home on the final 2.2-mile leg of the three-to-count women's race in a time of 11 mins 23 secs, winning by over two minutes.

But the prize for the fastest time went to 34-year-old Dixon, who was two seconds quicker on the opening leg for her new club, Sunderland Strollers. She handed over an emphatic 20-seconds lead, but the Wearsiders slipped back to fifth place.

Morpeth, who won two senior team prizes in the previous month's English National Cross Country Championships before claiming the North-East Harrier League Division One crown, were comfortable winners of the four-man relay, beating Gateshead Harriers by 62 seconds. Their anchor-leg runner, Matt Nicholson, ran the joint second fastest time behind Elswick's former Northern junior cross country champion Phil Hurst.

Results - Senior Men (4x2.2m): 1 Morpeth 42 mins 55 secs (J Nisb et 10.51, N Swinburn 10.44, G Taylor 10.41, M Nicholson 10.39); 2 Gateshead 43.57; 3 Sunderland 44.48. Fastest times: 1 P Hurst (Elswick) 10.08; 2= M Nicholson & M Elliott (Gates) 10.39.

Two days after finishing runner-up in his club's Mermaid 10K New Marske Harrier Shaun O'Grady won yesterday's Helmsley 10K Challenge in a time of 33 mins 57 secs, beating York Acordn's Andy Munzer by 38 seconds. Over-40 veteran Emma Yates won the women's race in 39 mins 3 secs.
