ORGANISERS of a popular annual road race are hoping this year’s event will see a record number of people taking part.

Last year’s Darlington 10k saw a record-breaking number of entries, with 1,370 people taking part, but organisers are hoping to break that record and attract close to 1,400.

The event, which is taking place on Sunday, August 11, will raise money for St Teresa’s Hospice and the Darlington and District branch of the MS Society and is being sponsored by car dealership Sherwoods Vauxhall for the 11th year running.

The race is also being supported by The Northern Echo, TFM Radio, Mizuno and new sponsor, Teesside University, who will be providing bottles of water for the runners.

As well as the 10k event, which starts at 10am, a family fun run will be held at 9am. There will be no 3k junior race but a prize category for 15 to 17-year-old runners will be included in the main 10k race.

The race will be chip-timed and text results will be available to all entrants who provide a mobile phone number.

Photo Inspiration will be official race photographers and photo prints and digital images will be available to view and buy in the Market Square soon after the race.
