Man charged with robbery and assaulting police remanded

A MAN accused of several offences, including attacking a police officer has been remanded in custody, after appearing in court.

Among the chages facing Michael Collier, 33, of Moorside, Spennymoor, is robbery in Brandon, County Durham, dating from February 12.

He is accused of assaulting PC Neil Taylor on February 15, causing him actual bodily harm.

Mr Collier is charged with theft of a car, driving with no insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, failing to stop for the police and driving dangerously.

He is also accused of theft dating from January 2, through to February 15, two thefts from a shop and three charges of burglary other than from a dwelling.

Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court heard Mr Collier also faces a charge of burglary from a dwelling and one of making off without payment for a taxi ride.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Durham Crown Court on February 21, in connection with the robbery charge.

Mr Collier will also appear Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court on February 27, in relation to the other charges. They are set to be committed to crown court on April 2.
