A NEW project which delves into the history of Ferryhill will be launched this weekend – and residents are being urged to take part.
Newcastle-based The Archaeological Practice is leading the Village Atlas project which aims to explore the history, archaeology, ecology and geodiversity of Ferryhill.
The project is being launched at the Dean Bank and Ferryhill Institute between 10am and 1pm on Saturday with residents being invited to bring along old photographs or historical documents showing the town’s past.
Alan Rushworth from The Archaeological Practice said: “Saturday will be a drop-in event with various of the specialist consultants on hand to provide a general introduction to the Atlas and information on how people can get involved.
“People are encouraged to bring in any old photographs, maps or documents relating to the area which they may have to be scanned or photographed and thereby preserved for posterity.”
The project is being supported by the Limestone Landscapes Project.
