A LOCAL councillor has said he hopes a hit-and-run driver will turn themselves in, as a mother continues to fight for her life after being knocked down.

Rosina Seabright, who has two daughters, is still fighting for her life at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough after being hit by a vehicle at 10.10pm on a residential street in Colburn, near Catterick Garrison on Saturday.

Richmondshire District Councillor Peter Wood from Colburn said it was a straight stretch of road but speed restrictions had been put in place with 30 mile-per-hour signs.

North Yorkshire Police said that Ms Seabright, 39, remains in a critical condition and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Mr Wood, who lives near to where Ms Seabright was hit, said: “Eventually the speed restrictions will be placed all the way along Forest Drive with a reduced speed limit.

“I hope the person that did this turns themselves in to the police because it is incredibly serious.

“It is just so unfortunate and I hope she pulls through and is home with her family soon. I know her and her family from walking around the town and my thoughts are with them all.”

A shop worker who found Ms Seabright saw a speeding car moments before she found her lying in a lay-by in Forest Drive.

Police urged the driver of the car that hit Ms Seabright to contact them and for anyone with information to call 101.

Sergeant Richard Parsons said: “The vital witnesses I need to speak to are the driver or passengers of a car which swerved following the collision and a purple car seen nearby at the time of the incident.

“I am also asking any witnesses – in particular drivers who were using Forest Drive or Fifth Avenue between 10pm and 10.15pm – to contact police straight away.”
