VOLUNTEERS are wanted to make the return of the Lindisfarne Gospels to the North-East a regionwide success.

When the medieval treasures arrive in Durham in July, museums across the North-East will stage events and activities inspired by them – and those museums need the public’s help.

A new project, Lindisfarne Gospels and Beyond: Learning Across the Region, is looking to recruit volunteers from across the North-East.

Project leader Sarah Price, head of Durham University’s Heritage Collections Education Team, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to really see what their local museum does and become a part of this huge regional celebration.

“The Lindisfarne Gospels are such a significant part of North-East history and museums across the region would welcome volunteers to make their planned activities and events extra special.”

The Lindisfarne Gospels will be on display in Palace Green Library, Durham, from July 1 to September 30. For more information, visit lindisfarnegospels.com To be part of Lindisfarne Gospels and Beyond, send a CV to Kirsty McCarrison by Monday, January 21, by emailing: 4schools@dur.ac.uk
