A CHURCH has been targeted by lead thieves for the second time in two months.

Cleveland Police are appealing for information after leaded windows in St Martin’s Church on Forest Lane in Kirklevington, near Yarm, were damaged.

Sometime between 2pm on Friday, December 28 and 1pm on New Year’s Day, the leaded windows to the porch area of the church have been smashed.

The light sensor, which covers the floodlights to that particular side of the church, had been tampered with and repositioned so that the thieves could carry out the damage under the cover of darkness.

Nothing was stolen, with damage limited to the windows, which had cost £700 to be replaced and repaired following an almost identical attack on Thursday, November 29.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Darren Beer on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
