Work progressing on offshore wind farm near Redcar

The Northern Echo: Work takes shape Work takes shape

WORK on an offshore wind farm off the North-East coast is starting to take shape.

EDF Energy Renewables is installing its 27 turbines at a site off South Gare, Redcar, which is located 1.5km from the shore at its closest point, just south of the mouth of the River Tees.

Work started at the turn of last year and foundation work continued until the summer. Those works are now being followed by the more visible above-sea installation of transition pieces, turbine towers, hubs and blades.

Great news for the North East Coast, lets hope our UK,and more so local companies are given the maintenence contracts.Cosalt Offshore,OGN,OGA,are all top class offshore oil, gas, windfarm companies, but as so often happens the lucrative 20 year maintenence contracts go to foreign firms. The UK then continue paying unemployment costs etc.Other countries protect the local contracts, companies,
jobs by various means,we tend to give to foreign firms and publish it ? Charity begins at home.Cosalt Wind Energy have a strong team of wind turbine engineers working from Grimsby on cotracts throughout the UK with Siemans the German Turbine specialists. So we need to look after our own, with grants for training, and re-training,apprenti
ceship
schools, grants, give the cash limited companies a helping hand, this will pay dividends and jobs to the northeast coast unemployed
