POLICE are appealing for information after a woman was threatened with a baton and robbed.

The victim was left distressed but uninjured after the incident shortly after 9.30am on New Year’s Eve in the car park of the Co-op in High Street, in Wrekenton, Gateshead.

Her attacker, who was in his early 50s, snatched her bag, then made off in a silver Audi described by police as having a black cabriolet roof.

Detective Inspector Deborah Alderson said: "This woman was not physically injured, but was left shaken and very frightened.

"I'd ask anyone with information about the incident or who may have seen the silver Audi TT to contact police".

The man is described as being white, but with a tanned complexion and of stocky build.

Anyone with information about the offence, is asked to contact police on the 101 non-emergency number.
