A MAN arrested in connection with the murder of County Durham grandmother Lesley Caile has been taken to Bishop Auckland police station for questioning.

Ms Caile, a mother of two grown up children and grandmother of three, was found dead at her home in North View, Hunwick, near Crook, on Christmas Eve.

Police found the 46-year-old suspect injured in the same property.

He was airlifted to The James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, for treatment.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Edgar confirmed that the suspect had now been released from hospital.

Det Ch Insp Edgar said he had been taken to Bishop Auckland police station where he will be questioned by detectives over Ms Caile's death.

She was declared dead at the scene but police have yet to reveal how she died, although they said she suffered a “violent death in tragic circumstances”.
