Police attempt to trace driver after suspected hit-and-run in Darlington

POLICE are searching for the driver of a car involved in a suspected hit-and-run incident in Darlington this evening.

A white Toyota Rav4 pulled out of a side street on West Auckland Road and went straight across the road into somebody's drive, pushing a car into the garage of the house.

The car also collided with a female pedestrian before leaving the scene.

The female was taken by ambulance to Darlington Memorial Hospital, but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

There was substantial structural damage caused to the garage and the house and there were fears that the gas main had been damaged, although this appears not to be the case.

Police closed the road while the incident, which happened at just before 9.50pm, is investigated.

Any witnesses to the collision, or has any information on the driver of the car involved, is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.

I came across a white renault car whilst going home late at night, around 00:12am - The white renault has had a lot of damage done to it at the front, and the car windows were clear as if the driver had not long ago gotten out of the car in this weather condition. Perhaps, I'm wrong. Because what I seen as a suspected vehicle is a renault, but mentioned above, it's apparantly, a Toyota.

Sounds like the same car. THe road was cordened off for a couple of hours. Lets hope the lady makes a full recovery. To hit another vehicle, and a pedestrian then drive off is shocking. It was very foggy last night but the impact of colliding with the car would of been enough for you to know you had hit something, therefore stop. I hope the Police catch those responsible.

I am the person who the car hit. Luckily I escaped with bad bruising and nothing was broken and I was discharged from hospital this morning. The car hit my dog as well and we have to take her to the vets today as she cannot walk on her back leg. I wanted to thank all of the kind people who came out of their cars and houses to come and help me, I am very grateful for the support I was given!! The staff at the hospital and paramedics were great as well. The police have made an arrest so let's hope that they get what they deserve.

My dog has to have an operation on her knee on Monday and has been admitted at the vets for x-rays today :o( she will always have a limp/arthritis in that leg now.
