POLICE are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in the Claypath area of Durham City in the early hours of this morning.
Officers were called to the scene at around 2.40am after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been clipped by a vehicle, which failed to stop.
A man, who has not yet been named, was found lying in the road between two parked cars and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The area was cordoned off for full investigation but the road has now reopened. A post mortem examination will be carried out later today.
Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the Claypath area near its junction with Gilesgate between 2am and 3am today.
