What was your first car?

My first car was a Triumph Herald. It cost £200. I bought it for my Mum and she let me drive it and a week after passing my test I wrote it off!

The Northern Echo:

How many times did it take to pass your test?

It took me three times. The first time I ever saw a filter light was on my first test. Needless to say I failed! I learned to drive in Hackney in busy London. I can't remember the car my driving instructor had as I had three instructors, one for each test!

Who would be your ideal fantasy passenger and where would you go?

I would take Stevie Wonder and we would drive to Glasgow and we could sing in harmony all the way. He still wouldn't have run out of songs by the time we got there. It would be my perfect Carpool Karaoke.

The Northern Echo: White House is planning a concert to honour Stevie Wonder

What is your dream car?

Bugatti Veyron, because it would be like being in a rocket. A classy one.

How would you describe your driving style?

Chatty. I drive very long distances when I am presenting or gigging. Carrie and I fight for the car keys as we both love driving. Car over train any day.

Tell me one driving anecdote from your past?

When I first met Carrie in 1986, I was trying to charm her, driving on the M3, I put a cassette of Marvin Gaye on. When I tried to load it I looked down for too long and did a full 360 degree skid across three lanes. We ended up parked on the hard shoulder and we just looked at each other and I pulled away again as though nothing had happened. Thank God it was a late-night empty road!

What are you listening to?

Drake, Rihanna, Beyonce, Fetty Wap . . . the kids run my car sound system.

What do you drive now?

The Northern Echo: Audi Q7

I drive an Audi Q7. It's perfect for long distances and I can get all four children in the back two rows.
