What was your first car?

An Austin A30. It cost £35 and it was black.

How many times did it take to pass your test?

I passed the first time. I went with a driving school and I think I took the test in the Austin A30.

Who would be your ideal fantasy passenger and where would you go?

I would choose Frank Sinatra, below. I once passed up the opportunity to fly home with him on his private jet, a big regret of mine!

The Northern Echo: THE MASTER: Frank Sinatra would turn in his grave if he knew how singers like me kept butchering his beautiful song

What is your dream car?

The Northern Echo: Bentley Continental Flying Spur

I own my dream car, a Bentley Flying Spur, above

How would you describe your driving style?

Business like.

Tell me one driving anecdote from your past?

I count a lot of great racing drivers as friends such as Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, below, Nigel Mansell and John Fitzpatrick – they made me realise I’m about a 20 handicap driver when compared to them.

What are you listening to?

Matt Monroe, Sinatra etc. I like that type of music. That was the soundtrack of my earlier years when I was at the top of my game! I still love it now.

What do you drive now?

The Bentley – because it’s the best.
