RIDERS have returned victorious after cycling from Middlesbrough to Edinburgh and back in aid of a young girl.

Nell Ramsay has Retts Syndrome - a rare genetic neurological and developmental disorder that affects the way the brain develops.

A team of 12 cyclists, ranging in age from 21 to 71, took part in the event, which was sponsored by four Billingham pubs - The Crafty Cock, The Village Crossing, The Wynyard and Hydes Bar. Two support cars followed the riders.

They left the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge, taking the coast route to the Scottish capital, before making the return journey several days later.

Last year, ride organisers were able to purchase a specially adapted trike for Nell along with many other items that make her life bearable.

So far, the latest ride has raised £1,685 for the cause. They are aiming to reach £3,000.
