THIS week's From the Archive section is a delve into a Shildon packet in The Northern Echo's photo-archive.
The packet just says "historic pictures" on it, which seems to be catch-all for photographs the librarian couldn't work out where to file correctly.
If any of them jog any memories, or you have any information to add, please email chris.lloyd@nne.co.uk
CHANGING TIMES: Byerley Road in Dcember 1960. On the left is a sign for Senior Service cigarettes which, apparently, satisfy. Then there's the old school sign, warning drivers of the proximity of Timothy Hackworth. A bus – with "duplicate" on its destination board - is toiling up the bank so badly it has been overtaken by what we guess is an Austin A35. And then there are the bikes with men, we'd wager, pedalling up from the wagonworks - you may still see bikes today but they'd probably be ridden by middle aged men in Lycra rather than railway workers going home.
