What was your first car?

It was an ancient battered, orange Triumph Spitfire. My dad, a blacksmith, had bought it as scrap for £15. The floor was made up mostly of holes and so he welded in a new floor, got it MOT'd and gave it to me as a surprise before I went back to college. I was really chuffed.

How many times did it take to pass your test?

I was taught by a retired police inspector who used to pick me up after school each week for my lesson. I was taught in a Morris 1100. Passed at 17, first time. Mind you it was in Kingussie, which had no traffic lights, roundabouts, or anything really. Could only really be tested on hill start and emergency stop!

Who would be your ideal fantasy passenger and where would you go?

Ryan Gosling and we'd drive to Las Vegas to get married!

What is your dream car?

I still like the design of the MGB GT - it's just so compact and cute. In red.

How would you describe your driving style?

Slightly distracted, I think! Am usually busy chatting or thinking about other things. I prefer to be driven - much safer, too!

Tell me one driving anecdote from your past?

The day I passed my test, I got into my mother's Austin 1800 and went off on my own for the first time. I drove along a very straight road and put my foot down as hard as it would go. It was quite terrifying, so I slowed down and came back home again.

What are you listening to?

I usually listen to Radio 4 - unless there's a play on and I have to switch then to Magic or Smooth or Heart. I move between those, depending on what tunes they're playing.

What do you drive now?

I occasionally drive my ex-husband's company car, a BMW 3-series Touring, which he kindly has given over to me and our son. The ex-husband drives a VW Camper Van. Since the son, Rory, has been driving it - he's in a band and uses it to transport instruments and kit - the car has suffered various bumps and scratches. And as for the interior...horrendous!
