SOUL singer Lisa Stansfield has sold more than 15 million albums and had chart-topping singles on both sides of the Atlantic.

Twenty-five years after scoring a No1 with ‘All Around The World’, and ten years after the release of her last album, Lisa returned to the UK charts in February when ‘Seven’ debuted at number 13.

On September 6 she will play the Sage Gateshead when she will perform tracks from her latest release plus favourites from her long career.

Lisa Stansfield – The Collection 1989 to 2003 – is released on October 20.

What was your first car?

A red Fiat 127.

What do you remember about it?

I used to drive it to do jingles in Stockport. The engine was so loud that I had to sing really loudly over it. It cos £400.

How many times did it take to pass your test?

Four! I was taught by a driving instructor called Sheila, I think. She used to teach soldiers to drive tanks in the Army and she had a sausage dog called Sally Ann. I once did an emergency stop and the dog went flying.

Who would be your ideal fantasy passenger and where would you go?

Steve McQueen - I’d be in Bullitt with him.

What is your dream car?

I don't have a dream car. I like to get a taxi or train. I keep my driveway free for my friends.

How would you describe your driving style?

Completely aggressive that's why I no longer drive.

Tell me one driving anecdote from your past?

In Ireland once a woman in a 4x4 reversed into me. I got out and confronted her and asked her why she'd done it, and she said she couldn't see very well!
