DARLINGTON football club's present problems are on a par with Brexit.

The club has been heroically managed since 2012, and achieved great things we should be all be proud of locally.

The Blackwell Meadows ground is unfortunately not up to the standard required for promotion, but the really dreadful decisions were made when we left Feethams.

Whatever happens now the club will only ever be playing catchup.

I only hope that the club continues to thrive and grow in the right way and the right direction.

This setback is an opportunity to re-group and discover a sense of purpose that has previously been elusive.

Let's give Martin Gray and his management team and staff the chance to be successful for the town and develop Blackwell Meadows into an asset for the the sporting community.

The team has been very much under-appreciated for many years but the fact remains without the football club a town like Darlington tends to be forgotten.

Darlington FC matters to the fans who go to the games and also the stay aways.

Like Brexit, the only way is forward.

Let's make the right decisions and respect the tough job the team in charge are doing for this much maligned but dearly loved club.

Colin Legg, Darlington.
