THE small glossy booklet 'The Election of a Tees Valley Mayor. Thursday 4 May 2017. Your guide to the candidates and how to vote,' is coming through our letterboxes.
While there is the usual political hype of what the four candidates will do for us Tees people, if they get elected, the booklet is published by the Combined Authority Returning Officer in Stockton.
However, for some reason the powers that be had to go to Huddersfield, in West Yorkshire, to get it printed.
One is reminded of when the then Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott on August 2003 came to the North-East to promote a regional assembly and had a few thousand leaflets to deliver.
However, the leaflets missed off a complete council area.
When this was pointed out to Mr Prescott, he said he would visit the area not on the leaflets. He was thanked for his commitment to visit, but the damage had been done, as many of the leaflets had been delivered.
We all know the result of that referendum - a big “no”.
I’m not so sure talking about better jobs in this political paper for the Tees sends out a good message, when one can think of many local printers who could do this work, instead of using printers in Huddersfield.
