I’M looking forward to another weekend of Six Nations rugby, still available to those of us without subscription TV.

At last England, in Eddie Jones, has a coach shrewd and seasoned enough to get the full potential from a talented pool of players.

But why on earth are we subjected to the supporters’ tiresome singing of “Swing Low Sweet Chariot”?

What on earth has the song to do with rugby, or indeed England for that matter, except as a reminder that the nation was heavily involved in the slave trade?

I find I’m continually reaching for the mute control.

Why not “Land of Hope and Glory” for example?
