I WOULD like to say how much I agree with Jean Kirkland’s letter (HAS, Feb 8) on the possible closure of Darlington’s Crown Street library.

I am a regular user of both the lending and local study sections of Crown Street and, having taken a public tour of the building, realise the significance of the substantial amounts of material and archives, not only on view there, but in the basement store.

This archive underpins the heritage of our town and we are at risk of it disappearing into unsuitable storage. We will also lose the knowledge and expertise of the staff who contribute so much.

Please, please, listen to the people you serve and think again.
