THE BBC version of The Night Manager seems to be picking up awards galore but I found it disappointing.
I could not come to terms with an arms dealer portrayed as the most evil person on the planet. Arms dealers are not nice people but they simply supply a demand. Replace one and someone else takes their place.
The UK is one of the biggest arms suppliers, and as long ago as the Napoleonic Wars British troops were being shot with lead mined from Weardale.
Far more evil are the psychopaths who film themselves beheading aid workers.
The series was also bedevilled by miscasting; Hugh Laurie was hardly convincing as the arms dealer and the vertically challenged Tom Hollander, as a hardened mercenary was laughable.
Granted Tom Hiddleston has a fine pair of buttocks but so had I at his age. That’s all behind me now.
