RE the new road signs which have been put up in Stanley, Billy Row and Sunniside to get motorists to slow down (Echo, Apr 6).
Howden-le-Wear has had 30mph signs at each end of the village for as long as I can remember. For what good they do they might as well be cut down and weighed in for scrap metal. Vehicles of all descriptions come through Bridge Street anywhere between 40 and 60mph, often driven by people with mobile phone in hand.
It is not signs that are required – it is enforcement of the law.
Dave Quinn, Howden-le-Wear
