I WOULD like to give a thumbs up to the Staindrop cubs of County Durham who are calling for a pavement parking ban after meeting with Christine Kay, of Guide Dogs Darlington.

These young people are the citizens of tomorrow and are more caring than a lot of the citizens of today.

What exactly is wrong with parking on the roads these days?

After all, that is what they are paying their road tax for.

The poor pedestrians, and more so the blind and the disabled, are the ones who have to negotiate around them. If it is illegal to park on pavements in London then why not the pavements of County Durham.

Everyone knows the motorist is king and they pay a lot for the privilege, but that doesn’t mean they own the walkways too. It is terrible the way we have to be impinged upon all over the county, with no one bothering to sort it out. So I say if you want to get behind the Staindrop cub group and sign their petition.

I would love to see those caring cubs and their MP Helen Goodman handing it over at 10 Downing Street.

Hopefully they may get there with our help.
