ON Monday, November 11, I sat on High Row, in Darlington, when an old man crossing the junction at Prebend Row fell and hit his head.
As usual, several people immediately went to his aid – making him comfortable and calling for help.
He was brought over to the steps near High Row and ambulance was called at 12.30pm.
Two of the town’s rangers appeared and started to administer first aid to a cut on his right cheek and brow.
After 45 minutes he was moved into Boots, as it was cold and no ambulance had turned up.
I think it’s a disgrace that in the town centre, with the town’s Memorial hospital just ten minutes’ walk away, that a 98-year-old man should have to wait so long for an ambulance.
I left at 1.40pm and nothing had turned up. Maybe we should have taken himself ourselves?
