I would like to apologise for the chaos and for the danger in which people found themselves in at the firework display in Bishop Auckland on Friday, November 5.
Some people did enjoy the atmosphere, along with the fireworks and the twinkle show for the children was well received.
I do, however, admit that the organisers must be made accountable for this shambles of an event. The crush to get in and out was unquestionably totally unacceptable.
Serious questions will be asked. I for one will be asking for the answers.
As far as the public money councillors receive to use in the community, I was led to believe health and safety to deliver this event had been rigorously followed.
I would like to see a substantial amount returned to the public purse from the organisers as the health and safety procedures were ultimately not good enough.
Cllr Sam Zair, Bishop Auckland
