WHAT is most shocking about the crimes of former Cleveland police officer and serial rapist Wayne Scott (Echo, Aug 20) is the ease with which he was able to commit them, and to do so despite his proclivities being well known – indeed apparently treated as a joke – among his colleagues.

It has been abundantly clear for many years that there is a putrid and growing abscess at the heart of Cleveland Police, and it is high time it was drained of its poison.

In short, there needs to be a drastic clean-out – yes, a purge. Only then will there be the remotest chance of Cleveland taxpayers at long last getting value for money.
