I READ Hayden Smith's letter (Echo, May 22) on immigration. It would appear that David Cameron has no grasp of the seriousness of the situation.

Allowing 641,000 immigrants into the UK during 2013 causes concern.

If this continues for ten years, the Government would have allowed an extra 6,410,000 immigrants, with their different nationalities and customs, into the country – an influx which would change the culture of the UK.

I know that net migration would half these figures. However, it increased by 109,000 during 2013.

I consider that our MPs do not consider immigration to be a threat to our society and infrastructure. Well, they should start listening to the British public, who they represent.

I would say that 10,000 net immigrants a year is a more acceptable figure.
