T SEALE suggests we show school children film footage of VE Day to remind them of the sacrifices made by previous generations (HAS, May 15).
I would suggest that, instead of showing people generally enjoying themselves because they survived; perhaps it would be better to show, in ‘prime time’ and on all channels, the dark, factual and truly dreadful films which documented the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camps; those camps which proved, once and for all, the true nature of the orders which the German war machine so enthusiastically carried out.
Let the present viewers see the past as it really was - a struggle against a monstrous death industry, peopled by German industries.
Germans knew exactly what was going on behind the layers of barbed wire.
