I HAVE just been reading the North West Durham Labour Party election "newspaper" which was put through my letter box telling me all the great things our MP, Pat Glass, has been doing for us.

Having read it twice, all I can see is that she has been doing a great deal of voting and achieving very little. Does she know where Crook is?

I understand that she occasionally holds a surgery in Crook but anyone who wants to see her must make an appointment.

Where does that leave people who are unable to get there? Whatever happened to knocking on doors, as used to happen during the hustings?

Crook is a forgotten town.

I have been trying for years to get decent pavements outside the old people's disabled bungalows where I live to no avail.

We have very few shopping facilities and mostly have to travel to Bishop Auckland. Our leisure centre was demolished. The demolition of the old bank and library buildings were supposed to be completed by the end of January 2013 but they are still standing, or at least falling into disrepair.

Hundreds of new houses have been built with more promised and no provision made for all the extra people who live in them eg. schools, doctors surgeries etc and there are no leisure facilities at all for older people.

I was raised like most people in this area, staunch Labour but I am having difficulty deciding what to do in the coming General Election.

The very good people of Crook deserve better.

We should think about voting for someone who spends less time voting in Parliament and more time listening to their constituents.

P Aspinall, Crook.
