IN the morally bankrupt world of Premiership football wouldn't it make a welcome change if our football clubs sacked the players who made the mistakes when games were lost rather than the manager.
For instance, last Saturday at the Stadium of Light if Sunderland's two central defenders had been working for the Water Board and they had let the water in like they let Agbonlahor in to score two goals they would have been in great danger of losing their jobs.
Gus Poyet came to Sunderland only last season where he inherited, not bought, a very moderate bunch of Premiership footballers who had relegation written all over them.
When Poyet said "We need a miracle," never have more truer words been spoken.
Not only did he keep those players and the club in the Premiership, but he took them to a Wembley Cup Final as well.
Most people would have been rewarded with the Freedom of the City for an effort like that not with their P45.
