UKIP candidate Mandy Boylett says she wants to reintroduce grammar schools (HAS, Feb 16).
In the 1950s, grammar schools succeeded because resources were focused on the most academically able 25 per cent of students at age 11, leaving 75 per cent of students in a system starved of finance.
That might have been an appropriate response in post-war Britain, but in the 21st century we need a school system which gives an excellent education to all our children and young people.
John Tait, Parliamentary Candidate for Stockton North The North East Party
